Email Deliverability Guide: Land in the Inbox, Not Spam

21% of legitimate emails never reach the inbox. Here's how to fix your deliverability and stop losing revenue to spam filters.

Why Emails Go to Spam

Spam filters look at sender reputation, authentication records, content quality, engagement rates, and list hygiene. Fail on any of these and your emails land in spam — or get blocked entirely.

Step 1: Set Up Authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)

SPF tells email providers which servers can send on your behalf. DKIM adds a digital signature. DMARC tells providers what to do with unauthenticated emails. All three are mandatory in 2025+.

Step 2: Warm Up Your Sending Domain

Never blast 10,000 emails from a new domain. Start with 50/day to engaged contacts. Increase by 25% every 3 days. Full warm-up takes 4-6 weeks. Shortcuts here destroy your reputation.

Step 3: Clean Your List Regularly

Remove bounced emails immediately. Suppress unengaged contacts after 90 days of no opens. Use email verification tools before importing lists. A clean list is a deliverable list.

Step 4: Write Content That Passes Filters

Avoid spam trigger words (FREE!!!, ACT NOW). Keep image-to-text ratio balanced. Include a plain text version. Don't use URL shorteners. Include your physical address and unsubscribe link.

Step 5: Monitor Your Sender Score

Check your sender reputation at Google Postmaster Tools. Monitor bounce rates (keep under 2%), spam complaints (under 0.1%), and open rates (above 20%). React immediately to drops.
